Scroll One: The Gathering
Part 1

The Great Lord Karraq Doom has sent out riders all throughout the country of Aror to hang up fliers detailing The Gathering, a great event held many times throughout history but not in recent memory.

A week before winter’s end, we find Curzweil inside of a prison cell in the town of Brandyshire awaiting questioning for the mysterious death of a young woman named Donna. As the guards leave him in his cell, Curzweil uses Mage Hand to grab the keys to the cell off of their hook to free himself. As he whistles and gathers his belongings, Thia hears the strange whistling and pokes his head through the window to see a culprit escaping his cell and rushing to the guard station entrance to report the escape.

Just to the north of Brandyshire two woodland fellows, Twig and Mithos leave their homes in the woods to investigate a large company of men cutting down trees and clearing a large part of the forest in preparation for The Gathering. After speaking with a worker they decide to go into town to speak with someone in charge.

Gnome wizard Orynn studies the town of Brandyshire and sees many people sigining up for The Gathering in the center of town. He also notices a large group of people heading toward the center of town, with a well dressed human leading the group.

Meanwhile Hodgins Verathan is pick pocketing and deceiving many of the new people that have traveled to witness The Gathering.

Back at the guard station Thia attempts to explain the prison break to no avail as Curzweil barrels through the few guards attempting to recapture him but manages to squeeze on through when Thia unintentionally distracts the guards. Curzweil escapes as Thia runs after him.

In the center of town Twig and Mithos angrily approach the table set up for registration while commanding others in line to allow them to pass. After much argument about the destruction of the forest, well dressed Samuel calms down both parties and helps come up with an agreement that no more trees will be cut down if Twig and Mithos agree to help with the remaining preparations for the gathering.

Hodgins Verathan while investigating great lord Theo Salma, he learns that Theo will be entering The Gathering along with 20 of his retainers.Hodgins then decides to infiltrate Theo’s retainers by murdering one of his guards named Wrex in the back alley of a tavern, and mangles his face so he is not recognizable.

Upon pulling the Withering Flower card from his Tarot Card Deck, Curzweil decides to check out The Gathering grounds with Thia in pursuit. There they get acquainted with Twig and Mithos. Curzweil learns more of The Gathering and decides to enter under a disguise.

Orynn wishing to learn more about the magical scroll prize of The Gathering, he meets up with a young Tiefling wizard student, Jorge. Jorge explains how the scroll was created by his master Iados Terror, and that it is a scroll of Skywrite. This provokes Orynn to enter The Gathering to try and win the prize.

Scroll One: The Gathering
Part 2

The day of The Gathering has arrived! As great lord Karraq Doom gives a speech thanking everyone for joining in The Gathering in celebration of the emperor’s new grandson, we find three of our hero’s, Thia, Mithos, and Twig, among the stands awaiting the start. The three others, Hodgins, Orryn, and Curzweil, are riding their horses into The Gathering grounds and receiving their element tags.

After Doom’s speech, a loud horn is played and all the horses start trotting in a circle. Getting faster and faster. And faster. As drums start to beat. Bum. Bum. Bum. And faster. Bum-bum. Bum-bum. Bum-bum. And even faster. Bum-bum-bum. Bum-bum-bum. Bum-bum-bum. And as the horses are in full sprint. BUM-BUM-BUM. BUM-BUM-BUM. BUM-BUM-BUM. The horses start turning tighter and tigher. An eagle screeches from the sidelines and drops a small ball into the center of the circle. BAAAAAOOOOOOO! The loud horn is heard again as the contest begins.

Orryn attempting to locate easy prey with tags other than his own almost falls off his horse but manages to hang on to the side. But he does notice that an earth tag is wrapped around that dropped in the center. Seeing that, Orryn creates a cloud of fog in the center of the fray. Curzweil failing to steal any tags rushes into the fog and creates an unseen servant who throws the earth tag ball up to him. Hodgins pushes his way through the rush of horses and men pummeling each other to get close to Theo Salma.

Theo Salma, Straiglic the Silver, and Samuel Verathan are all handed tags by their companions and they each now have a wind tag, fire tag, and water tag, so all they need is the earth tag.

In the crowds, Mithos barely avoids getting ale spilt all over him as someone behind him screams in excitement and throws their hands up in the air at the slight of horses crashing into each other. And while trying to get a closer look at the great lords, Thia is recognized by a female high elf who declares that she’s been looking for him. They slip away behind the crowds and talk about Thia’s past and future.

As men fall left and right and are trampled underneath the horde of horses, a strong wind blows clearing the fog from the center. Seeing this, Curzweil throws the earth tag to Straiglic the Silver who catches it with ease and gives Curzweil a curious look. Orryn loses his staff in the confusion and starts to back off. The circling of horses then starts to converge on Straiglic as Hodgins attempts to force Theo Salma off his horse but Theo manages to hold on and starts toward the earth tag. Samuel Verathan snatches the earth tag from Straiglic and leads the charge towards the exit gate. Samuel charges valiantly through the gate as horn and drums start back up again declaring the end of The Gathering.

As Karraq Doom declares Samuel Verathan the winner and awards him with the scroll of Skywrite. Samuel thanks Doom and accepts the victory in Karraq Doom’s name. Laughing and thumping his chest, Doom says that he was glad he accepted Samuel into his service and announces a feast for all to enjoy.

The Trial of Curzweil and Hodgins
7 vs 7

During the feast following The Gathering, guards of Brandyshire and retainers of Theo Salma start to see through the disguises of Curzweil and Hodgins Verathan. After some arguments, the guards put the two of them in chains and start to bring them towards Karraq Doom.

A large crowd gathers around the great lord Karraq Doom’s table and the new prisoners. Karraq Doom decides to settle the crimes of our two heroes right here and now. Knowing that a huge crowd has gathered, Doom chooses to hold a Trial of Seven to determine the innocence or guilt of Curzweil and Hodgins.

Theo Salma volunteers to act as accuser in the trial. And Straiglic the Silver walks up to Curzweil and puts a hand on his shoulder and says that he will fight for him if he’s able to procure the 4 other people to fight. Thia, Orynn, Twig, and Mithos all agree to fight in the Trial of Seven.

Before the trial, Orynn follows the wizard student Jorge who was sent on an errand by Karraq Doomto a tent just outside the tourney grounds, where Orynn is turned away by a tall dark red tiefling.

As the trial is about to begin, the party notices that Theo Salma is joined by 3 of his personal guards and 2 of Doom‘s guard. Through the crowds walks a man in full plate armor, shimmering silver, with spikes adorned all over. He joins Salma’s group and the battle begins.

The hero’s fight bravely with Hodgins falling multiple times at the hands of Theo Salma and Mithos falling near the end of the battle after discovering that the plate armor was moving on its own with no one inside. Thia manages to break the enhancement holding the armor together as Straiglic the Silver gut punches Theo Salma to unconsciousness ending the trial.

Doom announces the innocence of Hodgins Verathan and Curzweil as the party takes a rest to recover from the battle.

Straiglic's Quest - The Lost Elf Part 1
Your Mission, Should You Choose To Accept It...

As the crowds at The Gathering grounds start dissipating, Straiglic the Silver approaches Curzweil an commends him and his companions for fighting bravely. He then says that he has a task that may be suitable for them but that he cannot speak of it here and to meet up with him tomorrow morning.

After agreeing to meet up at the temple of Aphrodite in the morning,Mithos retires to his tree house just outside town and the rest of the party then decides to hit a local tavern for some drink and relaxation. The party bonds and gets to know each other a little better.

The next day the party, excluding Twig and Mithos, meet up in front of the temple of Aphrodite with Hodgins stumbling along, still a little drunk from the previous night. Suddenly, he trips and falls flat on his face while looking off down a side street where he notices two people observing him, who quickly retreat upon being noticed.

As Thia helps Hodgins off the ground, a female elf with pale white skin, light red eyes, and white-silvery hair with hints of bluish streaks running through it, steps out of the temple, introducing herself as Starlight the Silver, daughter of Straiglic the Silver.

Starlight leads Curzweil, Hodgins, and Orynn to her father’s camp as Thia heads to the woods to retrieve Mithos who is found tending to his carrots and other crops.

Upon meeting with Straiglic the Silver, he explains that he has journeyed to the Farwrath region to investigate the Doom clan’s sudden rise in wealth and power, using The Gathering as an excuse to travel to Karraq Doom’s lands. Straiglic says that went he first got to the town of Brandyshire, one week ago, he sent forth many scouts to question the people of Farwrath and to inspect the lands and report their findings.

Straiglic then reports to the party of one scout, named Mado who did not return and asks the party to set out and find out what happened to him and return him safely if possible. Mithos asks what the other scouts were able to learn. Straiglic explains that his scouts found that the land had a large surge in silver coins with the people proclaiming that the economy was booming and times were improving for all. But one scout found the remains of a silver mine that was all emptied out, with it’s silver wells all run dry. But the scout also reported large number of skeletons and bones all throughout the mine.

“Necromany…” declared Mithos as Straiglic nodded his head and said how that was his fear as well.

The party then set out upon albino horses and a mule lent to them by Straiglic, leaving word for Twig should he be found. After a day’s travel they start making camp and sleep by the side of the road. During the night the party is attacked by two of Theo Salma’s men. They are easily dispatched but not before Hodgins takes a crossbow bolt to the chest.

In the morning, Mithos prepares a funeral pyre for their attackers as the rest of the group splits up to ask the local farmers if they had seen an elf with white hair and white skin upon a white horse riding by asking any questions. With clues from the farmers the party locates some disturbed bushes by the road leading into the woods and sets off into the forest in search of the lost elf.

Into the Mine

The party ventured into the woods following a trail of broken branches and disturbed shrubs from the side of the road. After following the trail for a couple hours, the party realizes they’ve turned themselves around and have lost the trail. They finally get their sense of direction back when they spot a set of horse tracks and Curzweil climbs a tree and sees a large clearing not too far away.

Mithos casted a ritual to speak with his horse, who was getting excited and was sniffing the tracks they found. The horse confirmed it knew that the horse Mado was riding left the tracks they found.

Hodgins sneaks ahead of the group towards the clearing to find an entrance to a mine with a small trail of smoke coming out of it and a wagon with no rider or horse.

The party enters the assumed Silver Mine. Mithos and Thia move forward. Hodgins and Curzweil stay at the mouth of the cave since they do not have darkvision.

Mithos and Thia find a skeletal horse, that still moves as a horse. Thia yelps, alerting Curzweil and Hodgins that there is something going on. The horse skeleton sees Mithos and Thia. Thia draws his/her weapon and backs away, while Mithos shape shifts into a Boar, and positions himself between the evil dead horse, and the cowering small elf. Hodgins and Curzweil continue to run towards their comrades. The horse attacks the Boar, and Thia simply cowers in her/his boots, afraid of the horse, and a bit taken aback by Mithos’ transformation. Mithos attacks the horse with his Boar form’s tusks, then backs up in an attempt to make a charge attack, but gets hit by an attack of opprotunity by the horse, knocking him out of his boar form. The horse charges at Thia, and rears back to attack with it’s hooves. Thia lashes out with his/her Kama, striking the horse, before getting thoroughly stomped on by the horses hooves. Curzweil arrives, torch blazing, and immediately Eldritch Blasts the skeletal horse, in an attempt to get it away from Thia. The blast connects, moving the horse back, placing it between Mithos and Thia. Hodgins, arriving alongside Curzweil leaps out at the horse, slicing it’s spinal column at the neck as he flips past it. Hodgins lands on his feet, with his second dagger at the ready, then sheaths it, seeing that his first strike sufficiently dispatched the creature.

Of the many branching paths of the mine the party decides to directly follow the smoke trail and eventually Mithos sees a mine cart down the mine shaft. He goes over to investigate, peered over the side of the cart, and a slew of severed hands dive out at him. The hands latch on to his body and face, quickly rendering him unconscious. Curzweil conjures a Mage Hand, and — grabbing one of the disembodied skeletal hands that was lunging towards Mithos’ unconscious body — smashes it to the ground, crushing it. Thia hobbles forward, grabbing a rock, and throws it into the fray. The hand that had latched on to Mithos’ face gets knocked clean off, and killed. Hodgins charges forward, attempting to body slam the hands on Mithos’ body. The hands scatter, and Hodgins body slams Mithos directly, managing to crush one of the hands with his unconscious ally. With Hodgins now on Mithos, the hands once again climb up, and four of them get on top of Hodgins and attack him, rendering him unconscious. As the pile of unconcious friends grows, Curzweil advances and attempts to swing his staff at the hands. His concern for hitting his friends causes him to swing high, causing him to miss the hands entirely. Thia hobbles forward again, throwing one of her/his darts towards the hands, but it clatters against the ground, unable to hit it’s mark. Four of the hands latch on to Curzweil’s staff, making it too unwieldily to swing, and another three attack him directly. Curzweil, thinking quickly, decides to drop his staff, backpedal as fast as he can, and blast it with his Witch Bolt. The electricity splinters parts of the staff, and kills one of the hands, but the others manage to let go in time. Thia hobbles up to Curzweil, and strikes at one of the hands on him with his/her Kama, missing. Thia follows up my shouting and backhandedly slapping one of the hands on Curzweil, destroying it. The two that remained on Curzweil dropped to the ground, then lunge towards his ankles, one of them latching on. The three that are on the ground by the staff charge at Thia, one of them able to latch on and attack her/him.

Curzweil lunges forward with his daggers, stabbing two of the hands on the ground that missed Thia. Thia manages to kill the hand on his/her body, and attempts to strike the one on Curzweil, but misses yet again. Hodgens and Mithos stabilize while Curzweil stabs two of the remaining hands on the ground with his daggers. The lone remaining hand attempts to attack Thia again, but gets swatted away by the small elf. As the hand hits the ground, Curzweil stabs it, ending the last of the severed hands.

Thia heads over to resuscitate Mithos, while Curzweil revives Hodgins. All healed up and with new resolve, the party ventures forward into the mine.

Along with the cart that had previously been filled with severed hands, are other discarded remnants of the mine’s more productive days. Smoke is seen coming up from the tunnel that has tracks for the mine cart, and the group decides to follow the smoke in search of any sign of Mado. A dour mood fills the air, as each member silently acknowledges the increasingly likely fact that Mado has fallen victim to the necromancer. Mithos picks up one of the discarded pickaxes and the group continues forward.

An hour or two into the mine, the group finds deserted miners’ quarters. The party continues to follow the smoke further into the mine itself. Thia joins Mithos in the front of the party, and using their darkvision, they lead the party deeper and deeper into the belly of the mine. Mithos hears a dinging sound of metal hitting something hard, and the sound of moving earth. Mithos and Thia tell Curzweil and Hodgins to ditch the torches, as they stealth forward. As they approach, the sound of shovels and pickaxes stops. Thia immediately backpedals, and both Thia and Mithos get back to the others. The two update Curzweil and Hodgins, and, fearing an ambush, the group deliberates about what to do next. Thia suggests baiting the miners to come to them, and setting up an ambush of their own. Mithos makes a dense fog within the tunnel, and Curzweil summons an unseen servant, who uses another discarded pickaxe to make noises, in an attempt to draw the miners’ attention.

Thia ventures forward into the fog, and disappears.

The unseen servant performs it’s task, and the sounds begin coming closer, and closer, louder and louder. 6 skeletons burst through the fog. Mithos throws a pickaxe at one of them, but misses it. Curzweil uses a thundrous blast on one of them, and misses as well. Hodgins takes out his two swords, lops off one of the skeleton’s arms, and then decapitates it. Thia hobbles out of the fog, and attacks the closest skeleton to him/her from behind. Hodgins decides to attempt a feat of daring do, and tries to convince one of the skeltons that it isn’t worth fighting the party anymore. He shouts “Skeleton man! this isn’t worth it! Remember who you were!” The seemingly unphased skeleton turns towards Hodgins with it’s pickaxe raised. Curzweil attempts to Eldritch Blast the skeleton approaching Hodgins, managing to push the skeleton to the side, but the skeleton seems undamaged by the blast. It does however result in the skeleton missing it’s attack against Hodgins. The skeletons attackThia and Curzweil, and all three miss their targets.

Mithos’ sickle manages to slip between the ribs of a skeleton, inflicting no damage. Thia strikes out with his/her Kama, splitting the skeleton before her/him in two, destroying each of the bones in the spine and ribs. The skeleton is left simply with legs standing, then they too fall. Thia then hobbles forward and attempts to punch one of the skeletons attacking Curzweil, but misses. Hodgeins strikes out at his skeletal foe, but despite striking true, he is unable to fell the beast. Curzweil attacks one of the skeletons in front of him with his dagger, but finds nothing with his staff. The two skeletons attempt to attack Curzweil simultaneously, but one’s pickaxe collides with the others’ shovel, and as metal clashes upon metal, both tools miss their mark, and strike the ground. Hodgins’ skeletal nemesis manages to land a blow, and he falls unconscious. Mithos attacks one of the skeletons in front of Curzweil with his sickle, snapping the brittle bones of the skeletons’ arms. Thia strikes the same skeleton with his Kama, killing it, and then reaches out to punch the other skeleton attacking Curzweil. S/He punches it right in the hips, destroying it, and each leg falls separately, followed by the body of the now re-deceased skeleton.

With the fight over, the fog clears and a 7th skeleton is seen on the ground in pieces. Curzweil confronts Thia about his/her cowardliness and how she/he has been quite an asset in battle.

The party moves on and comes across an opening where the skeletal miners were working. The silver vein in this area is just about dry but the party hears the skittering noises of more severed hands in three mine carts that are close by. Rather than confront them, the party rushes past this area to find a door similar to the one they saw by an abandoned worker’s quarters with smoke coming out of it.

Mithos transforms into a rat to get a closer look. Upon looking in the room he sees a fire burning in the middle and the back of a elf with white hair lying on a cot and not moving. The stench of rot is heavy in the air, especially to his little rat nose.

The party steps into the room and sees scratch mark writings on the wall saying things like “Long Live Emperor Doom!”, “For the glory of Karraq Doom!”, and “Down with Emperor Azrmiir!”. The elf on the cot also begins to stir.

With a better look at the elf the party notices that his left leg and left arm have no flesh on them. And a good part of his jaw is exposed as well. Much of his body is rotting, mostly the parts closest to his exposed bones. He raises his boned hand and lets out a moan as Mithos quickly begins to slash at him. The elf tries to claw back but fails and ultimately meets his end when a burning piece of wood is plunged into him.

The party then confirms that the elf is Mado when they find a small scroll with instructions on the elf’s mission signed by Straiglic the Silver. Mithos sets the cot alight so to burn the remains of the elf.

Upon leaving the room, the party hears skittering noises again and sees upwards of 30 of the severed hands working their way towards the room. Mithos brings forth grasping weeds and vines which entangle the majority of the hands. The few that manage to work their way to the party are quickly dealt with as the party sprints through the horde and starts their full retreat out of the mine.

Straiglic's Quest - Exploring the mine

After the event of the Gathering, Twig stayed behind in Brandyshire helping those who were injured in the great event and also tending to the forest and woodland area that was cleared and demolished to make way for the Gathering. Straiglic the Silver sent word to Twig about his companions quest and provided him with a horse and rations to make the journey himself to catch up.

Upon stopping for the night to rest Twig began to see a vision.

Smoke and dark clouds were forming.
Flashes of fire.
Flashes of swords.
Flashes of axes.
Flashes of blood.
A great forest was on fire.
Dead bodies strewn about the forest floor engulfed in flames.
The bodies… start to move.
Suddenly, a bright flash comes from the sky.
A large shining green arrow comes forth from the flash,
extinguishing the fire.

Twig breaks from the vision in a cold sweat and continues his journey.

As Twig reaches Orynn at the entrance of the mine, the rest of the party is found to be exiting the mine. They speak of what happened in the mine and of Twig‘s vision. Orynn volunteers to return to Straiglic to tell him of Mado’s fate, while the party decides that the mine needs to be cleared and taken care of.

While the party rests up before reentering the mine, Thia hears a mine cart approaching the mine’s exit. After retreating to the woods the party sees two skeletons pushing the cart. After the cart reaches the end of the tracks disembodied claws start to leap from the cart. The claws form a line from the cart to the carriage and start unloading the cart, throwing pieces of silver along the line. The skeletons oversee the whole process and eventually the claws and the skeletons return to mine.

After resting the party inspects the carriage and sees a crate with 300 pieces of silver in the carriage. They then enter the mine eager to return with the found silver.

Inside the mine, the horse skeleton that was already dealt has begun to put itself back together but not before Mithos and Twig make short work of it. Twig then says a prayer to ease the soul of the passed horse.

The party then decides to travel down a different tunnel than the one in which they found Mado. Curzweil consults the Tarot for guidance as to which path to traverse. He draws the Chariot, and after a considerable amount of fruitless contemplation, Thia jumps into a mine cart and tells the others to push, forming a chariot of her/his own. The first tunnel they traverse down ends in a dead end with shovels all about the dirt wall.

Following a second tunnel, the cart tracks and support beams stop and they come across sounds of digging and groaning. Twig sneaks in to investigate and sees a large ogre zombie with a huge shovel digging at the tunnel wall. It then pulls out a large rock from the wall with its hands and picks its shovel back up and continues digging. Twig then retreats to the party where they discuss if they should take care of the zombie or leave him alone and follow a different path. They decide to charge in and fight it. After several blade slashes, arrows, force blasts and boar tusks, the ogre zombie is defeated and even its severed hand is blasted away after it begins to move on its own. Curzweil takes its big shovel as a prize and the party retreats their steps.

Following the final tunnel, Mithos notices the air down this tunnel isn’t as foul and rotten flesh smelling as the other paths. They come across an empty barracks that has wooden posts and nails and tools for putting up support beams. They continue on to find two armored individuals in silver plate nailing up support posts in the tunnel. They immediately stop and turn their attention towards the party. The group defeats them as the armor falls to the ground revealing that there was no one inside them. The pieces of silver plate armor is scooped into sacks and dragged back up to the fork after the party finds that this path too has ended in a dead end.

Straiglic's Quest - End of the line

Traveling back to the road, Orynn sees a company of men carrying banners with a symbol of a Lyre on them. The company is escorting a great lord who was present at The Gathering named Blumford The Bisque. Blumford travels along the road atop a palaquin, more being dragged than carried by his retainers. He is quite a large dragonborn, gluttonous even, very unlike his guards and men who seem skinny and malnourished.

After the company passes Orynn returns to the road and after about an hour an a half comes upon Straiglic the Silver’s company also traveling along the road. Orynn tells him the fate that befell Mado and that his companions were determined to rid the mine of all traces of necromancy and defeat the necromancer himself.

Straiglic seems troubled by the tale of Mado’s fate but grateful that our heroes were able to find out what happened to him. He gives Orynn a small wooden chest as a thank you and also says how he must return home to the Eclipsed Woods but he’ll have Starlight stay behind and help out. After getting ready Orynn and Starlight race off back to the mine.

The party all regroups inside the mine, determined to find the source of necromancy and defeat it. Retracing their steps through the mine, the remains of the undead that were already defeated have started to stir once more but the party pushes on past them. Eventually, they reach the room where they found Mado after defeating the disembodied hands that they had fled from the first time they came down this way. Twig’s holy ocarina music was loud and screeching but it seemed to turn away quite a number of the claws. From within the room the smell of burned rotted flesh hung heavy in the air.

Going down further in the tunnel, Thia hears a small whimper, crying for help coming from a room. With a great sense of cold in the area and their breaths visible in front of them the party enters the room and finds a small, white, shimmering, transparent figure huddled in the corner. The ghost child talks with Thia and says his name is Billy and that he’s scared, hurting, and confused. The party takes the boy with them promising to help.

After splitting up upon reaching a fork, Billys tells Thia that he doesn’t know why but he feels like he’s being pulled in one direction and that he wants to go that way and maybe his dad is that way. Meanwhile, the rest of the gang come across two other ghostly figures, a middle aged woman and a young girl, Sarah and Amanda. Twig promises them rest and they go back to regroup.

After going even further, Billy sees and runs up to a floating, unmoving male figures who he recognizes as his father, William. The figure then drops to the floor and seems to become awake but is confused. The family embraces each other and William explains how he remembered dying while fighting off an orc raid and the party says that a necromancer is bringing dead things back to life. The ghosts explain how they are in pain but are being pulled deeper into the mine and that they think that by going there they can ease their pain. Thia makes them promise to stay behind and that the party will help them when the necromancer is defeated.

Leaving the ghosts behind the party comes across a large minotaur skeleton wielding a great axe at guard in front of a room. They burst from around a bend and blast the skeleton with all their might, even lopping off its head. Thia enters the room to see silver ore shining throughout the walls and 4 skeleton miners, 2 adult size and 2 child size and a armored foe with dead black eyes, wispy white hair, and rotting flesh. The armored foe has skulls adorning his studded leather armor on his kneecaps and shoulders and has a longbow and a long sword. He attempts to re-resurrect the minotaur skeleton but it is immediately beaten down with the combine might of Orynn and Curzweil’s magic.

The party focuses their attacks on the armored foe leaving the skeletons alone (but not before blasting the bones of one of them across the room) and their foe drops to the floor and turns to ash and the remaining skeletons drop lifelessly. Thia runs to check on Billy and his family but they are no where to be seen.

Starlight inspects the ashes of the undead foe and says that she doesn’t think they killed the true necromancer. While this one definitely seemed to be controlling the minions that were in this mine, she had never heard of an undead being raising itself. To her knowledge only living beings could be the true source of necromancy.

With determination to see their quest to its complete end but not knowing where to go next or what their next clue could be, the party turns to Curzweil who draws from his deck revealing the Looming Tower.

Where do we go from here

After defeating the scourge of necromancy in the silver mine, our heroes made their way back up and out of the mine. Upon seeing the light of the exit, Twig heard voices outside of the mine talking in a scratchy speech that he did not understand. After alerting everyone else, Mithos let out a yell prompting two hooded figures to step into view.

As an arrow flew by the party from one of the figures, everyone leapt into action. With the help of a strong wind emanating from Mithos, the fight was mostly kept to a ranged battle. Eventually, a commanding voice from outside the mine was heard directing two more figures to step into the fight. Then, the owner of that voice stepped forward with his hood down, showing his orange-red skin, pointy red ears and yellow eyes. The hobgoblin captain threw two javelins striking Curzweil and Orynn.

When the captain was the last one remaining, realizing the battle could not be won, he attempted to flee. Part of our group gave chase, while others tended to those with serious injuries. The hobgoblin captain was felled after getting hit with a multitude of ranged attacks.

With the battle over, the party began to take some time to bandage themselves and talk about what they should do next. Starlight revealed that everyone present at the Gathering had begun to leave Brandyshire, and her father’s scouts reported that Theo Salma, Thax Dalmar, and Louis Orion were seen to have been traveling with Karraq Doom toward’s Farwrath’s capital Darkwell, Doom’s home.

While everyone was still resting, Starlight explained that she had to leave and return to her father and to the Eclipsed Woods and bid everyone farewell.

The party traveled back to Brandyshire to rest up and gather information. And to tend to some crops. After going around town and asking questions to the villagers, everyone (save Mithos) met up at the temple of Aphrodite and mosied on down to Mithos’s tree house where he was no where to be found. Everyone decided to continue on to Darkwell without him.

Mithos was in fact about a half a mile south west from his house collecting some turnips for a nice little brunch. Not worrying about the affairs of the rest of the group, Mithos went about his day as he had for many years, tending to crops, enjoying the bounty of the earth, reading up on gardening techniques, taking in the beauty of the sunset and stars in the night sky.

The next morning our adventurers reached the city of Darkwell. Along the road they had passed many carts carrying various goods in and out of the city. Trade seemed to be doing really well for this city. A new black stone wall surrounded the city, it was mostly finished but there were workers putting finishing touchings on some areas.

From within the city, one structure stood out from all the rest. A dark red tower that seemed to loom over the city’s inhabitants.

Arrival at Darkwell

After Mithos finishes his day dreaming of what another day in solidarity would be like, his new friends knock on his door and they set off for the city of Darkwell.

The next morning our adventurers reached the city of Darkwell. Along the road they had passed many carts carrying various goods in and out of the city. Trade seemed to be doing really well for this city. A new black stone wall surrounded the city, it was mostly finished but there were workers putting finishing touchings on some areas.

From within the city, one structure stood out from all the rest. A dark red tower that seemed to loom over the city’s inhabitants.

Once inside the city, the party decides to investigate the tower as Curzweil’s Tarot Card Deck has recently revealed the Looming Tower card. Drawing from the deck again, the Shroud of Death card is drawn.

Hodgins explains that he is going to go off on his own and investigate what Theo Salma is doing in the city. The party makes plans to meet back up in a couple days at the statue of Doom at the entrance of the city. And not thinking that Hodgins will be able to survive on his own, Twig volunteers to look after him while the group splits up.

Our heroes spend some time at the Sleeping Dragon tavern and Orynn talks about his life back home, his library, and his mother. [Greg/Rohit, fill this in more]

Asking the bartender about the large tower in the city, the party finds out it is home to a powerful wizard and it is where he teaches his students. And when the party eventually travels to the tower, they find that it is connected to u-shaped building and there are no direct entrances into the tower, only two doors on each side of the u-shaped building.

After snooping around the tower grounds, Mithos goes to knock on the door as it is suddenly opened to a young tiefling who starts to yell at the hooligans creeping around his school grounds but he recognizes Orynn and starts to calm down. And Orynn recognizes the wizard student Jorge.

Jorge asks what they were doing and Curzweil explains that they are investigating a dark wizard and asks if Iados Terror was home. Jorge avoids the question and says that he doesn’t know but he’ll meet them at the Dark Fountain tavern to talk in an hour. Once the party is out of earshot, Jorge renters the school.

Thia, who had broken off from the group when Jorge appeared, had found a noisy bar with a band playing called the Humble Mead and many female waitresses, some of who where taking patrons to the back of the building. The bartender asked Thia if s/he’d be interested in a lady for the night, but Thia declined until the bartender pushed further and then agreed to an appointment for tomorrow night.

Leaving the Humble Mead, Thia and co. met up and went to the Dark Fountain, a tavern in the middle of the city overlooking the well from which the city and the fountain got their name. There they waited for Jorge who never showed up. The party snuck back to the Sleeping Dragon and spent the night there, fearful that they may have made some enemies.

Going back to the tower the next day, the party found the doors to be trapped. One of which shot out missiles of magic force when touched and the other had a crystal embedded in the door that when Curzweil‘s unseen servant used Mithos’s sickle to try and pry it out of the door, both the servant and the sickle disappeared in the blink of an eye.

After kicking the door in beast form, three magic missiles shot from the roof of the school building hitting Mithos in the back. A human wizard stood on top of the building demanding the party to leave. Orynn pried into his mind to learn that he is a senior student of Terror‘s school and he set up the traps once Jorge told him they were asking about a dark wizard. He also did not know where Iados was currently, but he wasn’t at the tower.

After refusing to leave, the competent wizard created a large ball of fire over his head and threw it at the group, badly damaging all and knocking Orynn unconscious. The party had no choice but to flee, carrying their wounded friend.

Life in the big city Part 2

The group returns to the Sleeping Dragon inn in defeat to rest up and decide what to do. After enjoying a meal together and resting Thia decides to lead the party into town to see the sights.

Mithos spots a crowded blacksmith’s shop and decides to enter. He inquires to the dwarf inside about buying a sycthe but the dwarf says that he only makes top grade weapons and armor and that Mithos should stop by the general store run by Lucien if he is looking for a simple tool. The party asks around and finds the location of the general store which is named Lucien’s Magnificent Crafts.

Upon entering Lucien’s Magnificent Crafts we see a knight in plate armor talking with and handing a small box of rolled up scrolls to an old tiefling behind the counter, the owner of the shop Lucien. Our heroes get a closer look and recognize the knight as the man who won The Gathering, Samuel Verathan, who then slyly hands a folded up note directed to Lucien’s inside coat pocket. And Lucien brings forth a sword from under-neath the counter to give to him.

On his way out, Samuel sees the party and steps forward to introduce himself to those he recognized from The Gathering. After chatting for a bit he leaves and the party starts looking around for items to procure.

Mithos finds a scythe, while Orynn eyes some jewels, and Curzweil asks Lucien about any enchanted swords. Lucien gets visibly excited when the prospect of selling a magic weapon starts to unfold, but he quickly gets annoyed when he realizes that Curzweil doesn’t have the gold to spend for the weapon. Thia also becomes interested in an item he cannot afford, jeweler’s tools, but returns them to their spot on the shelf when he learns the price.

Mithos suddenly “sneezes” and disperses a fog cloud throughout the whole store. Lucien starts screaming for everyone to get out of his shop and everyone rushes out. Meanwhile Curzweil summons an unseen servant to retrieve the scrolls brought in by Samuel Verathan but ultimately fails.

One of the cashiers of the shop runs to get the city guards, with Thia following, to return to a store not filled with fog anymore, and the other party members gone from the scene. The guards and Lucien inspect the shop to find nothing stolen and question everyone who was inside at the time. The annoyed guards chalk the whole thing up to someone playing a prank, possibly even students of Iados Terror who are known to have weird initiation traditions.

Orynn, still weak from the fireball attack by the senior student, returns to the Sleeping Dragon. Thia eventually regroups with Curzweil and Mithos at the Humble Mead, where they enjoy some drinks and some food. Curzweil slips a few gold coins to one of the waitresses who then pulls Mithos along into a room in the back.

After a couple minutes, a boar runs through the bar and out into a back alley. Curzweil apologizes to the bar tender and the young lady on behalf of Mithos.

Thia on the other hand, successfully fulfills his appointment.
